Humus Amoris was founded in 2008 after its founders realized that they needed to contribute on a bigger scale to ecological footprint reduction in order to have a bigger impact. Over the last few years, as the environment topic has come to the front of politics and economics, we've come to realize that many people, although starting to become more aware of their ecological footprint, did not know where to start. Yes, most of the people you know would know 1 of 2 things that they could work on or stop doing to make a difference but that was it..
Doing a little research, we've found that it was hard to find books and web sites where someone could find good quantities of information in one place. Lots of web sites or references would give you tips on certain topics, but not a lot, and often with a lot of explaining and technical elements that only the eco savvy type people would find interesting and very few concrete examples on how these ideas could be applied to daily life. The people who just want to contribute, like they would for social organism, don't necessarily want the whole encyclopaedia, they want to know where and when, plus what the overall benefit is so they can make their own opinion. They also don't want to change totally how they live, they want to contribute, but don't want to commit to drastic measures, at least in the beginning.
That is why we started compiling along the way things that we thought could be done by people and businesses to reduce their ecological footprint in order to put it all in one place. People could then easily scroll through the different topics and pick what could be more easily done by them and also to expose them to other ways to do certain activities that they would not have though of, so that eventually, they could change some of their "preferred" non-eco habits. As people become more and more eco-aware, some of the tips have been integrated in their lives over the last few years, but the quest for ecological footprint reduction is a never ending process. |
